The Magic

Node.js SaaS starter kit

Ship a paid SaaS this weekend.

Accounts, billing, email and the boring security work — already written, already tested. Express, Postgres and server-rendered HTML. Three dependencies, no build step, nothing to eject from.

Sell worldwide without becoming a tax department

Billing is built around a merchant of record, not a bare payment processor. The difference matters: a merchant of record is the legal seller, so they charge the customer, collect and remit VAT and sales tax in every country, issue the invoice and absorb chargebacks. You do not register for tax in countries you have never been to, and you do not build a billing UI.

Every other starter kit hands you a payment processor and a compliance problem. That is the difference, and it is why this exists.

Accounts that work

Sign up, log in, verify email, reset password, change password, delete account. Sessions in Postgres so you can revoke them.

Billing already connected

Hosted checkout, signed webhooks, plan entitlement, the customer portal for cards and invoices, plan limits enforced server-side.

Security done properly

scrypt hashing, CSRF on every form, rate limits on auth, CSP and security headers, no open redirects, no user enumeration.

Email on any provider

Plain SMTP, so Resend, Postmark, SES or your own server are an environment change. Console fallback for local work.

Ops you will not fight

Idempotent schema, one-command migrate, a pre-flight check, a route smoke test, graceful shutdown.

Code you can read

About 2,500 lines. No magic, no generated files, no framework conventions to memorise. Every non-obvious line says why.

Who this is for

Developers who want to launch the product, not the infrastructure. If you are comfortable with Node and SQL and you have lost a weekend to session handling and webhook signatures before, this saves you the next one.

Not for you if you want React, a type system or a framework opinion. This is deliberately plain.
